MAX LATHAM

Biography

"Max" Kathleen Latham

  • Life Skills Coach
  • Motivational Speaker
  • Professional Consultant

Max brings to her work an immense passion, a passion grown from ignoring her authentic self and experiencing the confusion and pain that accompanies that denial.

Max built a successful career and became well respected her he field. She gained affluence and position. She was even asked to run in the primary election for the U.S. House of Representatives in 1988. But, something inside told her, "this isn't enough, I need something more to fill my soul." Driven by this internal emptiness, she leaped into a new endeavor---never bothering to check the red flags that screamed, Danger. She made all the mistakes she knew better than to make and as one would expect, failure ensued. All that she had worked for was lost and she found herself confronting a profound loss, like none she had ever before experienced. She felt totally empty.

It took Max multiple years of perseverant self-growth work to recover from her experiences. From this effort came the clear message that she had finally found he passion and her destiny. Her future was to be about helping others deal with personal challenges.

Out of her drive for meaning came some starling revelations. She observed that:

  • Her brilliance was there all the time-it was just dormant
  • Life's experiences often drown our spirit and we need to work to find it
  • Allowing her authentic self to surface meant taking emotional risks
  • Risks, once taken, cause fear to diminish
  • Risk liberates your true spirit and allows your brilliance to emerge
  • Risks taken with success lead to happiness, peace and contentment.

Drawing upon all her experiences, her formal schooling and her learned job related skills, Max knows with certainty that her work is about helping others face their challenges and find their own brilliance.

Max Latham's personal mission is "To be a catalyst for other people's brilliance, to assist others to be all that they can be."

Where does the name "Max" come from?

Her formal given name is Kathleen. "Max" was an accidental nickname given her by a two-year-old girl who couldn't pronounce Kathleen. The little girl thought it fun to call Kathleen silly names. One day after calling her a variety of silly names and giggling a whole lot the little girl walked up to Kathleen and said, "I know what your name is. It is Max." From that day on the little girl called her "Max." The little girl's mother liked the name and she too started to call her Max. Others heard the name and liked it and soon it became the name of choice. Max suits the new evolved Kathleen. Funny how a two year old was able to recognize Kathleen's authentic self before she recognized it herself. This, of course, is because the two-year-old knows how to be authentic.
